THE Second World War, the Senghenydd Mine Disaster, a sheltered accommodation and an ill-fated village fair were all professionally performed on stage in the Pembrokeshire YFC Welsh language drama competition.

Held at Ysgol y Preseli on Tuesday evening (February 2) members from Hermon, Fishguard, Eglwyswrw and Llysyfran Young Farmers’ Clubs took to the boards to entertain a packed crowd.

Four very different performances were all very well received as the young farmers’ showed they were as equally comfortable under the spotlight as they are in a field.

Peter Hughes Griffiths, who judged the competition praised all clubs for their hard work and strong performances.

Winning the Cilgwyn Cup for best actor was Eglwyswrw’s Iwan George for his humorous portrayal of village fair organiser Mr Gosforth.

Llysyfran’s Angharad Edwards won the Gelliolau Cup for best actress as she wowed the audience as homeless 73 year-old Wendy.

Winning the Menter Iaith shield for the best overall drama were Llysyfran YFC for their emotive drama set in a sheltered accommodation called ‘Lleucu rwyt ti’n angel’. They will now head to Wrexham to compete in the all Wales final.

The Welsh language ‘Time To Shine’ competition was also held that evening and Hermon’s Ffion Phillips won with her rendition of Les Miserables’ I Dreamed A Dream. She too will head to Wrexham to compete in the all Wales final.
