HORSE and pony entries again numbered more than 600 at the Aberystwyth and Ceredigion County Show at Capel Bangor with supreme being given to the two year old Sport horse, the liver chestnut Pembroke Masterplan, shown in hand owned by care home proprietor Teleri Humphreys and superbly presented by Bobby Roberts.

Bred by Caryl and Helena Davies this fine colt was no stranger to this show where he won the Hunter championship in 2015 as a yearling and went on to achieve several further successes, not least at the Royal Welsh Winter Fair.

From the cattle lines Paul, Bessie and Bryn Williams headed the dairy exhibits with their first time shown in milk Holstein heifer, Waliswood Top Shot Blomke, which calved in March at 23 months of age.

Standing in reserve was Severn Ivors Sweetpea, a Guernsey second calver from William Edwards who runs a mixed Channel Island herd locally.

Heading the beef cattle entries was the 14 month old British Blue bull, Lilley Knight, shown by Wyn and Linda Morgan, who also claimed the female award with their home bred three year old calved heifer, Ty Isaf Iesha.

After winning the Simmental championship with his home bred 14 month old bull, Hirwaun Gruffalo, Aled Davies paired him with Hirwaun Glyndwr, a month younger, to take the inter-breed pairs prize.

From an impressive 600 sheep entries young breeder Dafydd Jones took best with his yearling Suffolk ram and also the inter – breed group award.

Chairman Vaughan Griffiths said that it was very pleasing, and surprising to a certain extent, just how far exhibitors are prepared to travel to compete at the Aberystwyth Show.

He also expressed his most sincere gratitude to the main sponsors, Cambrian Garages, and to the University who this year provided all the champion, reserve champion and first prize rosettes.
