BEEF and sheep farmers are invited to attend the upcoming Pembrokeshire NFU Cymru on-farm livestock meeting near Haverfordwest to discuss the red meat sector.

The meeting will be held at Parc Gwyn, Llandeloy at 2.30pm on Wednesday, September 14, by kind permission of Pembrokeshire NFU Cymru Livestock Chair Maarten Davies and family.

The meeting will include a short farm walk where Maarten will give a rundown of the beef and sheep enterprise that he runs in partnership with his parents Raymond and Anna on 160 hectares at Parc Gwyn.

The main enterprise is beef fattening with around 400 animals fattened every year, with store cattle bought in mainly from local livestock markets. They also run a herd of 25 beef suckler cows and have a sheep flock comprising 160 breeding ewes.

Guest speaker for the afternoon will be NFU Cymru Livestock Board Chairman Wyn Evans. Those in attendance will have the opportunity to discuss the market situation for red meat and hear an update on NFU Cymru’s lobbying work in the beef and sheep sectors following the EU Referendum vote.

Walter Simon, Pembrokeshire NFU Cymru County Chairman, said: “Since the UK voted to leave the EU there is a lot of uncertainty and this meeting provides an ideal opportunity to discuss the key issues affecting the livestock sector. This is an open meeting and refreshments will be available thanks to sponsorship from Spunhill Farm Sales Ltd.”
