A MAJOR farm slurry spill has caused pollution in the River Honddu in mid Wales.
Up to 99,000 gallons of slurry was in a lagoon which failed and a "significant discharge" went into a tributary of the River Honddu.
Natural Resources Wales (NRW) said temporary catch pits and trenches had been dug and the stream was also diverted to take out the slurry.
NRW officers have also been assessing any impact on the River Monnow and River Wye following the spill yesterday (Tuesday).
An NRW spokesman said it would take at least a week to clear the slurry.
He added: "No doubt there's an effect - that's clear to see but rivers recover very quickly and I'm confident that we've contained as much of the slurry as possible."
