THERE was an exceptional standard of livestock exhibits in all sections at the St Clears YFC annual show at the Untited Counties Shwoground, Nantyci.

The attendance was down somewhat, despite a beautiful day, but several regular supporters felt that many were deterred by the clash of dates with the Royal Welsh Spring Festival – especially so this year with Carmarthenshire being the featured county

In the horse and pony classes Gemma Rees had a remarkable successful day winning the ridden Hunter class, the side saddle competition before goinfg on to take the supreme championship with her nine year old bay Hunter, Banjo II.

Seren James was placed in reserve with her ridden Welsh part bred.

Inter breed winner from the cattle classes was Jade Phillips’s Balzer Elegant, a British Blue third calver shown with her December born heifer calf, Balzer Lady Ladqsha ahead of the winning dairy entry, the January calved Jersey second calver, Glanmor Tequilas Sweetie, bred by Helen Cox and family.

From the sheep pens best was given to Menna Thomas with her three year old Lleyn ram and the topping the group of three entries were Gethin and Eleri Gibbin with their Charollais trio.

Televison cameras were present during the day filming sequences for inclusion in the forthcoming Channel 4 series 'Vet on the Hill'.

Joint presidents of the 2017 show were Edward and Paula Thomas of Trefenty Farm who have a long association with the event as committee members and in official capacities.
