NFU combinable crops board chairman Mike Hambly will be the guest speaker at the next Pembrokeshire NFU Cymru on-farm arable meeting on Wednesday, July 19.

The meeting, which starts at 6pm, will be hosted by NFU Cymru Next Generation Policy Group member Tom Rees and his family at Dudwell Farm, Camrose.

Tom will take those in attendance for a short walk around the 700 acre farm, which grows around 450 acres of cereals, including winter wheat, spring barley, winter and spring oats and winter sown oilseed rape.

Tom will also show visitors the biomass boiler and integrated grain drying system recently installed on the farm.

Dudwell Farm is also home to 250 breeding ewes and 15 beef suckler cows and calves in addition to 50 beef store cattle. The farm also has nearly 100 acres of woodland and is entered into the Glastir Advanced agri-environment scheme.

Mike Hambly will discuss the recent work of the NFU in the arable sector, lobbying in raising the profile of the importance of plant protection products, including the fight for reauthorization of Glyphosate and fighting against restricting the use of neonicotinoids in pesticides.

He will also provide an update on the latest situation in the development of electronic grain passports and will discuss the impacts of volatility on international grain markets.

Pembrokeshire NFU Cymru arable chairman Paul Raymond, said: “We are extremely grateful to Mike Hambly for agreeing to attend this meeting, providing local members with an excellent opportunity to discuss the issues affecting our sector. The meeting is open to all members, friends and neighbours, so feel free to join us and raise any questions you may have.”
