THE popular Dolau beach in New Quay, Ceredigion has been closed to the public until further notice for public health reasons due to contamination from farm slurry in the stream that runs on to the beach.

The decision was made by environmental health officers from Ceredigion County Council after they were notified of the spillage on Friday evening (March 30).

Warning signs have been placed at the entrance to the beach notifying the public to stay clear of the area until further notice.

A spokesperson from Ceredigion County Council said: "Due to the slurry spillage on Dolau beach on Friday night, we've had to make to decision to close the beach until further notice for the health and safety of the public.

"We strongly advise the public to stay clear of the area."
