A FARMER’S daughter who has attended the Royal Welsh Show (RWS) since she was four years old has been selected as the ambassador for Clwyd in 2020.

Lowri Lloyd Williams, who grew up near Ruthin and is the international marketing manager for the Welsh Government, is the ambassador elect for Clwyd.

It is the feature county responsible for fundraising for next year’s RWS in Builth Wells on July 20-23.

Ms Williams, aged 34, who attended Ysgol Brynhyfryd, has spoken of her pride at representing Clwyd and its farming community, where her parents still own a beef and sheep farm in Efenechtyd.

Ms Williams said: “I feel honoured and privileged to represent Clwyd.

“I have attended the show all my life and it has always been the highlight of the year to go with family and friends.

“I never would have thought then that little me from Ruthin would become an ambassador for the show.”

Ms Williams was given the role after being interviewed by a panel of RWS representatives.

The 2020 RWS is the first year men could apply for the role, which has historically remained exclusive to women, while the role of president was reserved for men.

Ms Williams will take over fundraising and marketing for RWS in Clwyd, staging fundraisers and raising awareness of the biggest events on Wales’ calendar.

She added: “I’m really excited to get started and it is a fantastic opportunity to get involved with events in the Clwyd region and work with people, which I love to do.”
