A FARMER’s proposal to his fiancée took an udderly unique turn when he painted the big question on the side of one of his cows.

Sion Thomas proposed to his fiancée Alice Green by painting ‘Alice: marry me?’ in green paint on the side of a white dairy shorthorn cow.

“We both live on a dairy farm and I had a white cow which I had been to the show with when I was younger,” said Sion.

“I wanted to take Alice to buy a ring so I thought I would do something a bit different to become engaged.”

He added: “At the time, Alice was just baking in the kitchen and then I walked past the window with the cow – she was pretty shocked.”

The couple, both 24, live at Drysgol Goch farm, Llanfyrnach, and met during their final year while they were both studying in Harper Adams University.

Sion and Alice plan to marry in September 2020, and have been surprised by the number of messages on social media they have received since Sion shared his proposal.

Wales Farmer:

“I hadn’t told anyone beforehand, just my parents before this,” he said. “I have had so many kind messages and my friends and family all thought it was wonderful.”

The shorthorn cow, named Drysgol Darlington Cran, was taken to compete in the National Calf Show by Sion and family when she was under a year old.

Sion painted her with a green spray paint can, usually used for tagging animals.

He was inspired to make the unique proposal after seeing a similar idea in the Farmers’ Guardian five years ago.

“I don’t think anyone in the community around here has seen anything like this before,” he added.
