SHREWSBURY'S weekly dairy sales hit the heights recently with a top price of £3,300 and a total clearance.

With an impressive 140 animals passing through the sale ring the atmosphere was tremendous with lots of potential and successful bidders in attendance and west Wales breeders among the leading prices.

The quality was tremendous for the show which was judged by Mike Oakley who selected a heifer from Richard Lewis of Carmarthen as his champion.

Lyganlan Adam Anna Red (VG87-2yr) is bred from eight generations of cows and was selected for first prize in a very strong heifer class.

She generated much interest in the sale ring and on the telephone and was sold for £3,300 to Messrs A & L Paul of Slatabogie Holsteins, Northern Ireland. The second prize heifer from O C Whittaker was a super pedigree heifer and was awarded reserve champion and was sold for £2,040 to SG Lee & Sons of Wolverhampton.

The first-place cow from D N James & Co of Ceredigion; Meadowfort Successful Roxy 42nd (GP83) realised at £2,000 to a local purchaser.

M & J E Hughes of Criggon had a super consignment selling to £2,150 for a super pedigree heifer selling to Oakley Farming, also going to this home was another super heifer from JE & SJ Wood of Norbury which realised at £2,040.

The Brassington family of Telford consigned a good run of heifers selling to £2,020.

Lots of other great heifers sold for over £1,900!

Mature cows sold to £1,200 and organic cows were selling to £1,550.
