DEPARTMENTS have been reviewing their budgets and making savings but Ceredigion County Council’s controllable budget still has a predicted overspend of just under £1million for 2019/20.
Adult services, children services and lifelong learning and culture are three departments facing overspends.
A £70,000 overspend in the lifelong learning and culture is put down to reduced income at the Ceredigion Museum cafe.
Under-pressure adult and children services have been hit by overspends on direct payments as well with £240,000 over budget predicted also due to looked after children.
A delay in meeting previous savings targets of more than £1million has also affected adult services and the cost of independent sector beds, adding to a predicted £2,294,000 overspend.
Most other council departments and services expected to break even or underspend according to the latest figures with the overall controllable budget £100,000 underspent as of June 2019.
The Schools Service expects to underspend by £100,000 by year end as a result of vacancies while finance and procurement expects to underspend by £350,000.
“In previous years the financial performance has improved as the year progresses – each service will carefully monitor expenditure for the remainder of the year to assist to recover the overall deficit,” a report to cabinet on September 24 adds.
