A SUCCESSFUL Christmas show and sale was held by Ruthin Farmers Auction Co Ltd.

Three renowned judges were invited to judge – Owain Llyr, of Ty’n y Wern, was there to judge the cattle, with Paul Slater, of the Whitley Hey flock, judging the pairs of lambs and Denbigh butcher Daniel Morris judging the YFC best single lamb section.

A pleasing amount of show cattle were presented of very high quality, meaning that Owain Llyr had his work cut out to narrow them down to find his champion and reserve.

In front of a packed exhibition hall, he awarded the butchers champion beast to a heifer belonging to the Hughes family, Ty Cerrig, Ty Nant.

The 570kg British Blue cross heifer went on to sell for £4.70 per kilo to established butchers Jones Brothers, of Stansty Lodge, Wrexham.

Reserve champion was awarded to J Williams, Ty’n Llyn, Traws.

Weighing 570kg, she achieved £3.70 per kilo and was purchased by Clwyd Dowell of CLD Meat, Denbigh.

Renowned stockman Paul Slater placed an untrimmed pair of beltex cross lambs exhibited by the Griffiths family of Ty Isaf, Derwen as overall champion lambs.

In fact, the Ty Isaf family took a clean sweep in the pairs adding the reserve champion pair of lambs and also the best pen of ten texel cross lambs the following morning.

Bryn and Tirion’s reserve champion lambs were offered for sale and achieved £178/head purchased by Daniel Morris, Denbigh, while the champion pair of lambs made £4.30 per kilo or £172 per head for 40kg lambs.

These were purchased by Tom Hughes butchers of Rhydeilian, Llanfairpwll.

The YFC best single lamb was won by Elliw Evans, Tan y Gaer, Llanfihangel, winning the Bryn Jones Ty Mawr Memorial Cup.

Records were broken as two local butchers competed for the 40kg Dutch Texel-sired lamb.

The lamb was sold for £780 with judge Daniel Morris finally being the successful bidder.
