Preseli MP Stephen Crabb has praised the dairy industry in the fight against climate change.

Speaking at environment, food and rural affairs questions in the House of Commons, Mr Crabb highlighted the recent efficiency successes of the dairy industry, calling them a ‘force for good’.

A recent Climate Change Agreements biennial report showed that over the last 10 years, the dairy industry has delivered a 21 per cent improvement on its energy efficiency.

Commenting after speaking in Parliament, Stephen Crabb said: “Agriculture, and the dairy industry especially, have often been made the villain in the climate change story, when in fact they are a force for good.

“Farmers are custodians of the land, and are making serious positive contributions in the fight against climate change. This is evident in the huge strides the dairy industry has made on improving its energy efficiency, which is in a long line of sustainability ‘wins’ for the industry.

“It’s important that this industry is praised when it shows that it is able to tackle these issues, as agriculture and the dairy industry is the backbone of the Pembrokeshire economy.”

A video clip of Stephen’s question has reached nearly 30,000 people on Facebook.
