A MAN who was caught with drugs and assaulted a police officer in Cardigan must serve a community order and pay compensation.

Dean Bettinson, of Walnut Gardens, Plymouth, pleaded guilty to assaulting the officer during the execution of her duty at High Street on Saturday, January 25.

He also admitted resisting/wilfully obstructing the officer, threatening, abusive or insulting words and behaviour towards another officer and possessing two grams of cannabis.

Magistrates at Aberystwyth Justice Centre imposed a community order on Bettinson, including a rehabilitation activity requirement of up to 10 days and to carry out 240 hours of unpaid work in the next 12 months.

The 42-year-old also has to pay £100 compensation for the assault and £50 compensation for the threatening behaviour, along with £85 prosecution costs and a £90 victim surcharge.
