MEMBERS of Llys y Fran YFC have raised a massive £3,000 for the NHS in a sponsored virtual marathon challenge.
Over the May bank holiday weekend, members and their friends and families attempted to walk, run and cycle the distance from Withybush Hospital to all the Nightingale hospitals in Wales, England and Scotland.
That added up to the equivalent of 1,328 miles – all while following the Government’s social distancing guidelines. In fact they ended up doing it twice.
"With three days to do it we knew it was going to be a challenge, we never thought that over the weekend we would be able to double it!" said club chairman Carys Phillips.
"We made it within a day and a half therefore decided to keep going to see if we could complete it again. We did and more, walking, running and cycling 3,260 miles over the bank holiday weekend. Absolutely incredible."
She added that everyone decided how they would clock up the miles, either from walking, running or cycling, some did all three.
"We have raised £3,000 all for the NHS and specifically the Hywel Dda Health Board here in Pembrokeshire. Even though we couldn’t physically be together, we worked as a team and made it possible."
