The cancellation of shows this summer hit plans for the Lleyn Sheep Society's 50th anniversary hard – but members made up for it with a virtual show on the society's website.

Entries consisted of short videos of the stock with classes for pens of five shearling ewes and five ewe lambs and a shearling ram.

The judging of more than 50 entries from across the UK and Ireland was undertaken by well-known breeder Mr Lionel Organ, Llandysul.

The championship was awarded to D W & C F Morris, of Carmarthen, with a homebred Penywern shearling ram, described by the judge as the standout of the show.

This ram is out of a homebred ewe by Rowelen Francis, the sire having been successful having placed first as a lamb at the Royal Welsh and breeding the top priced ewe lambs at both Exeter and Ruthin Sales in 2019.

Dai Morris commented that he was absolutely over the moon, it was good to have something exciting happen in the midst of the turbulent year we are having. The ram will be sold at the society sale in Exeter.

The reserve championship was awarded to David Knowles, Kendal, with his pen of five homebred ewe lambs. The judge described them as a well matched, very correct and classy pen. David farms with his father Peter and noted he was shocked but excited to have won the class and then go forward to be reserve overall.

The show proved a great way to engage with the membership over the summer and the competition was so popular that it may be run again in future years.
