Firefighters tackled a large barn fire in Llanrhydd, Ruthin after hay bales caught fire. 

North Wales Fire and Rescue Service confirmed the incident on social media on Friday, August 5, where they explained that crews were expected to remain at the scene overnight.

A spokesperson said: "We are currently in attendance to a large barn fire in the Llanrhydd area of Ruthin, where approximately 300 bales of hay have caught fire.

"Four appliances were called to the scene shortly before 5.50pm today (Friday), and crews are expected to be in attendance overnight.

"We are asking people to avoid the area while crews tackle the blaze.

"Thank you for your assistance."

North Wales Fire and Rescue Service later confirmed that as of 10.50 am Saturday, August 6 one crew was still in attendance at the scene.

The cause of the fire was found to be "spontaneous combustion". A total of 380 hay bales were affected, as well as parts of the roof of the barn however there was no threat to any human or animal life.
