CWMOWEN Show, one of the oldest rural shows in Wales, returned on Wednesday, August 10, as it celebrated its 140th year.

According to the archives of the Brecon County Times, the event can be traced back to the Eppynt Hill Agricultural Society, which held an annual Sheep Dog Trials and Show at Cwmowen, near the Griffin Inn on the old B4520 Brecon Road, for the first time on October 14, 1882.

This was to become the Cwmowen Show, which has been held annually and is now in its 140th year – even though there have not been 140 shows. Cwmowen Show celebrated its 70th anniversary in 2017.

The return of the event was celebrated as the show was held at Blaenbwch Farm, Maesmynis, near Builth Wells, last week by kind permission of the Powell family.

This year, there were sheep dog trials, a pony show, dog show and children’s sports, including a sack race, a cross country race and a ‘bean bag balancing on head race’ for children and adults.
