Members of the Berriew Show Committee have produced a cook book which will be launched at the 2023 festival, celebrating the pick of the food people have brought to the show.

The committee for the 74th Berriew Show, an annual celebration of agriculture, livestock and handcraft, will be unveiling a cookbook at the 2023 show that contains 58 recipes spanning more than 50 years of competition schedules.

The cookbook, titled ‘Cake, Bake, Make and much, much more’, showcases recipes collected from various Berriew Show competitions throughout the decades.

The committee have been planning such a collection for several years, whittling more than five decades of recipes to what they have deemed to be 58 of the very best.

Recipes include fruit cakes, muffins and brownies to chutneys, tray bakes and soda bread, all of which have been triple checked and tested in local kitchens.

Ros Roberts, one of the organisers of the collection alongside co-creator Jan Mulholland, has been testing recipes for Berriew Show competitions for over 30 years.

She said: “Cookery competitions at the Berriew Show have been part of village life since the early 1960’s so this cookbook is a glimpse into the history of baking over the last half century.”

The books will be available in the marquee on Show Day, Saturday, August 26.

The cookbook will be joined by 60 craft stalls, showcasing the skills of local residents as the stalls will include everything from cheese, salami, gin, honey and heritage food to ceramics, homeware, art, stationery and gifts.

The field will be full of attractions from a packed programme in the main arena, to live music, a large horse and dog show, a big display of rare breeds, vintage vehicles and 90 trade stands covering everything from agricultural machinery, trucks, seeds, fencing and sheep dipping to clothing, furnishing, electric cycles, plants and pottery.
