Over 150 people attended the Montgomeryshire Agricultural Association’s annual presentation dinner, which saw 25 awards being handed out.

On October 27, the Montgomeryshire Agricultural Association held their annual presentation dinner at Llanfair Caereinion Leisure Centre.

Over 25 awards were handed out, as categories included planning and development in the form of best farmhouse gardens, sustainable farm environments, hedge laying and best farm innovation.

Livestock awards were also handed out, recognising achievements for pedigree, commercial and purebred herds and sheep, with the Champion Herd Overall going to Jim and Monty Jones from Garthmyl.

Individual management on farms were also recognised, including separate awards for those under and over 250 acres, the best organic farm and new entrant into farming for those aged 40 or under.

A spokesperson for Montgomeryshire Agricultural Association said: “The Association is extremely grateful to the Wynnstay group for its support and sponsorship of these competitions and the schedule produced to promote this successful annual event.

“The Association wishes to thank the NFU for their sponsorship of the New Entrant Into Farming Competition. The Association would also like thank the staff at the Leisure Centre for their hard work ensuring that this evening was a success.

“The Association continues to forge links with the YFC movement and Coleg Powys/Newtown College in order to sustain and move the Association forward.”

Some of the aforementioned links between the association and YFC include Holly Page from Sarn YFC, who has been sponsored to attend the British Cattle Breeders Conference in Telford as a result of winning the Senior Stock Judging Competition at the 2023 YFC Field Day.

Also featured at the ceremony, Emma Morgan-Page, an Agricultural Student at Newtown College, was presented with a cheque for £75 as winner of the Farm Tendering Exercise.
