A series of photos taken from a plane provide an overhead view of the scale of recent flooding along the River Severn along the Powys border.

Powys was hit with multiple instances of flooding during the first week of 2024, caused by heavy rain as Storm Henk battered Mid Wales.

Flood alerts were issued for several rivers and tributaries throughout the area, particularly along the River Severn, roads became flooded and motorists were advised not to in the hazardous conditions.

Days later, on January 6 Alex Whittle captured a series of images of the flooding across the Powys/Shropshire border from G-NOCK a Cessna 182, on a flight from Caernarfon back to Sleap.

Mr Whittle took these photographs over Ardleen and Crigion, looking north to north-east at the time.

In the aftermath of Storm Henk, drivers had been reporting issues all along the A483, with people travelling along the road at Arddleen claiming vehicles were "turning around because of floodwater on the road near the Guilsfield turning".

The road between Pool Quay and Ardleen was closed in both directions by North and Mid Wales Trunk Road Agency, as well as the main road between Welshpool and Newtown, which was closed in both directions due to heavy flooding on the road.

In the aftermath of the storm, Powys County Council said: “Staff are working extremely hard to deal with the impact. However, we would urge motorists to remain cautious on county roads and not to attempt to drive through flood water.”
