WELCOME to bygones and another chance to live out days long passed.

Today we venture to the 1990s as we share a selection of pictures from 1999 when Powys and the rest of the world was on the cusp of a new millennium.

The Euro currency was launched, but Britain’s Labour government had no plans to introduce the currency here, preferring to stick to pound sterling instead while unemployment fell to just over 1,300,000 – the lowest for 20 years.

1999 marked a momentous shift in UK politics with the opening of the Scottish Parliament and Welsh Assembly.

This event was a milestone in the devolution process, granting Scotland and Wales a degree of legislative autonomy. The establishment of the devolved authorities significantly altered the political landscape of the UK.
