More than 520 businesses attended Castell Howell’s summer food and drink trade show which was held in Carmarthenshire in March.

It was the biggest attendance ever recorded at the event hosted by Wales’ leading catering supplier. More than 2,000 different products were showcased from 100 separate stalls in a marquee at the company’s headquarters in Cross Hands Food Park.

Customers were able to sample some of the best food and drink Wales has to offer, and were given demonstrations on site by food producers and professional chefs.

“The event was a huge success,” said Castell Howell’s managing director, Brian Jones.

“Clearly, the hospitality sector in Wales is in bullish mood ahead of the summer months, when traders will be looking for a boost after what has been a difficult period.

“In the current economic climate, extravagant holidays may not be an option for lots of people this summer, and we anticipate many will choose to explore and enjoy what is closer to home.

“This provides an ideal opportunity for the food service sector in Wales because more evenings out, day trips and domestic holidaying are an affordable compromise, and food and drink plays a key role in this market.”

Castell Howell also provided customers with some food for thought, by delivering workshops on how to meet consumer demands of quality, value and provenance, without compromising healthy profit margins.

A wide range of food producers exhibited at the event, including Authentic Curry Company, Olives et al, premium Welsh meat company Celtic Pride, and award winning ice cream manufacturer, Mario’s.
