It won’t be horses that racegoers will be cheering down the home straight when they gather at Windsor Farm, Lamphey, but sheep.
South Pembrokeshire YFC wanted a novel way to raise money for the Wales Air Ambulance and it doesn’t get more original than sheep racing.
Club president David Phillips and his family offered to host the event so now all that is needed is for punters to turn up.
It could be an evening full of surprises. While champion racehorses burst from the starting boxes and charge towards the finish line eager to win, racing sheep by contrast usually prefer to amble.
One of the club leaders has even made bibs for the sheep to wear during the six races. Lively commentary will be supplied by Pembrokeshire farmers, Will Prichard and Roger Lewis.
Admission is £5, with free entry for under-10s. The event on Friday, July 10th, starts at 7.30pm.
