Two members of Pembrokeshire YFC have flown the flag for their county and Wales as ambassadors of the movement.

Lisa Edwards, of Eglwyswrw YFC and Wayne Shanklin, of South pembrokeshire YFC, travelled to Northern Ireland at the beginning of May as ambassadors of Wales YFC.

Lisa and Wayne spent two weeks with families of YFC members in Ulster and the trip also coincided with the Royal Balmoral Show.

Lisa, aged 23, currently works as a manager of Tempo Clothing in Carmarthen and has just finished her year as county queen attendant.

She said: “I decided to apply for a trip with the Wales YFC international programme so that I could socialise and meet YFC members from a different country. I have travelled to Northern Ireland once before with my club, and was looking forward to spending more time there and learning more about their culture and way of life.” Bar manager Wayne Shanklin, aged 25, travelled with the Wales YFC international programme to the European Rally, in Sweden last year and is currently the county’s international linkperson. He is also past chairman and treasurer of his club and has taken part in many YFC activities.

“I thoroughly enjoyed my time at the European Rally last year and I wanted to experience a different country from a different perspective, so I applied for a homestay trip as I felt that this would offer a different experience. I was looking forward to seeing Northern Ireland in a way that I wouldn’t if I went there on holiday, and it was interesting to see how young farmers in Ulster is different to Wales,” said Wayne.
