Four Dyfed pupils were in the Welsh Schools Athletic Association team which competed at the British Schools Indoor Combined Events International in Scotland.

Fifteen school pupils from six out of the eight Welsh Districts (Afan Nedd Tawe, Cardiff & Vale, Dyfed, Glamorgan Valleys, North East Wales and South East Wales) made the long trip north to represent the country at the Emirates Arena in Glasgow.

The International was for competitors in the under 16 and under 18 categories.

Some had already had valuable experience of the competition whilst for others, it was all about learning and the first of many opportunities for them at this level.

Three Pembrokeshire Harriers members and one Carmarthen Harrier from the Dyfed District were selected and wore the red vest of Wales following their top placing finishes in Cardiff at the Welsh Schools Indoor Combined Events Championships at the beginning of November.

The youngsters battled against the top Combined Event runners, throwers and jumpers from English Schools, Irish Schools and hosts Scottish Schools.

The Welsh Schools team returned home with two team medals and an individual bronze.

Ysgol Bro Pedr pupil Beca Roberts had the honour of being announced as the Welsh Schools’ girls team captain for 2019.

Both age groups, with four athletes per country featuring, completed a pentathlon with 60m Hurdles, Shot Put, 200m / High Jump, Long Jump and 800m to finish off making up the pentathlon.

Beca Roberts (Ysgol Bro Pedr, 2,762pts): 60m Hurdles (10.63), Long Jump (4.90m), High Jump (1.50m), Shot Put (8.73m) and 800m (2:40.84)

Lucy Wintle (Ysgol Y Preseli, 3,014pts): 60m Hurdles (9.93), Long Jump (4.72m), High Jump (1.44m), Shot Put (8.44m) and 800m (2:20.22)

Liam Topp (Ysgol Harri Tudur, 2,739pts): 60m Hurdles (9.17), Long Jump (5.32m), 200m (23.30), Shot Put (9.69m) and 800m (2:26.86)

The Welsh Schools teams placed: Under 16 Girls (2nd 9,303pts); Under 18 Girls (4th 9,612pts); Under 16 Boys (3rd 8,544pts); Under 18 Boys (4th 8,792pts).
